Our smile is an asset that we possess and it is essential to preserve it lifelong. Any blemish on our teeth may make us self-conscious but thanks to dental services available, a lot of dental problems can be corrected which can help us keep our teeth strong and healthy.
Teeth gaps are one of the most common dental issues, but it may be fixed with dental treatments. The technical term for a tooth gap is a ‘diastema’ and it can happen anywhere in the mouth, but most commonly, it appears between the two front teeth. If you don’t like this gap, your dentist may be able to help with teeth bonding.
What is teeth bonding?
Teeth bonding is a dental treatment where the dentist uses a composite filling, camouflaging the hue of your teeth to repair broken, chipped or discolored tooth and for closing gaps between teeth. The material used for bonding resembles the color of your teeth, thus making the filling look more natural.
How is it done?
First, your dentist will select the shade of the composite filling that matches your teeth color. Than the dentist will prepare the tooth and etch the surface of your teeth to roughen it and apply some liquid conditioning over it that allows the bonding material to adhere properly. When the surface is ready for the filling, your dentist will apply the tooth-colored bonding and mold it to give it a proper shape. Finally, the bonding is finished and polished, thus completing the procedure.
Is it the right thing for you?
Before taking up this treatment, there are certain things that you need to take into account. For instance, the bonding may not be compatible with your daily lifestyle as if you smoke, the filling may get stained and cause discoloration. It is recommended that you consult your dentist and make a wise choice.
Moreover, you need to take good care of your teeth and fillings and maintain good oral hygiene. The bonding is a synthetic material and may break or wear off if you don’t have adequate oral hygiene. Practice good oral habits to upkeep the health of your teeth and the beauty of your smile.
